The Naked stories are the original stories written in the 80s and 90s, some while travelling in Asia, some back home in my Elephant and Castle days.
Of course being naked is not always a good thing, revealing as you might, too much fat, or the fat being in the wrong place, saggy skinned with syphilitic moles, leaky warts and bloody bruising veins, its needy flesh, knock knees, your bits and bobs (never an attractive sight hanging out of a tangled hairball), and heck, a hairy butt, flat feet, crusted corns, and arthritic ankles. Just warning you! It’s all a bit more than you might want to see, and the pain of stubbing a naked toe against a kitchen chair is all the higher 🙂
I cannot believe some (a lot!) of the stories were read to the writing group in London. Despite being well received, I wonder what they really thought because some are very R-rated and some, especially Bangkok Baby, I held off including in Seeking Sanook for the longest while – until I realized that it was crucial to the narrative arc.
